Memories of Summer Vacation at Chiang Mai

Last August, I went to Chiang Mai with my family. It was our first time to visit there. Chiang Mai is called the “Old City” because it was once the capital of Thailand between the 13th and the 16th century. There were castle walls and a moat in the town so it was easy to feel its history.

Chiang-Mai is also surrounded by mountains. Rich in Nature… so we felt a laid-back atmosphere. There are over 40 minorities live around the mountains that are rich in culture.

We stayed in Chiang-Mai for four days.

The most interesting place we visited was Doi Pui Tribal Village. There are 1,000 Mon people live and work at height of the mountain. They sell crafts, special products like tea, almonds and knickknacks that were made by them. I love handmade crafts because someone has taken time to make them.

I also enjoyed the Saturday & Sunday street market. It starts in the evening and the market is so big. Many stalls lined up selling crafts, food, drinks, clothes, postcards, etc..

Lastly, I recommend the hotel we stayed. The hotel’s name is “Baan Hanibah”. It’s a small guest house surrounded by trees. If you like antiques and teak furniture, I think you’ll like it too.
